What are Anniversary Gemstones?

Anniversary gemstones are stones or crystals that relate to anniversaries.  People often give anniversary gemstones as gifts to celebrate special occasions.

Anniversaries don't have to be limited to wedding anniversaries, they can also be attached to any occasion, such as weddings, birthdays, and any other event that is related to a specific date and time.

 

Which Gemstones are Related to Anniversary Dates? 

 

There are the traditional anniversary gemstones, however there are also some alternative anniversary gemstones that are also popular.  You will see that there are a couple of precious metals that also relate to anniversary dates.

 

1st Anniversary Gemstone is Mother Of Pearl

Mother Of Pearl is the traditional gemstone for a 1st Anniversary.  It is most often found in a creamy white colour, although it is also found in its natural colourings.  An alternative 1st Anniversary gemstone is Pearl.

 

2nd Anniversary Gemstone is Garnet

3rd Anniversary Gemstone is Moonstone

Moonstone is the traditional gemstone for a 3rd Anniversary.  The most popular is Rainbow Moonstone which exhibits a rainbow hue, however it can also be found in cream, yellow, blue, grey, and peachy/pink.  An alternative 3rd Anniversary gemstone is Crystal Quartz.

 

4th Anniversary Gemstone is Blue Topaz

Blue Topaz is the traditional gemstone for a 4th Anniversary.  Topaz is often colourless, but can also be found in blue, brown, orange, grey, yellow, green, red-pink.  Blue Topaz aids in clear communication.  An alternative 4th Anniversary gemstone is Amethyst.

 

5th Anniversary Gemstone is Sapphire

Sapphire is the traditional gemstone for a 5th Anniversary.  This is another gemstone that comes in a variety of different colours, again with the blue variety seemingly the most popular.  The Blue Sapphire is traditionally associated with purity and love.  Turquoise is an alternative 5th Anniversary gemstone.

 

6th Anniversary Gemstone is Amethyst

Amethyst is the traditional gemstone for a 6th Anniversary.  Amethyst is well-known for its violet to purple colouring, although it is also found in other colours.  Amethyst is a calming and healing gemstone.  Garnet is an alternative 6th Anniversary gemstone.

 

7th Anniversary Gemstone is Onyx

Onyx is the traditional gemstone for a 7th Anniversary.  Black Onyx is extremely popular amongst men & women alike.  Onyx encourages happiness and good fortune.  An alternative 7th Anniversary gemstone is Lapis Lazuli.

 

8th Anniversary Gemstone is Tourmaline

Tourmaline is the traditional gemstone for an 8th Anniversary.  The many varied colours of Tourmaline make it an extremely popular choice.  It is most commonly black, but can range from brown, violet, green, pink, or the dual-coloured watermelon tourmaline which is pink and green.  Tourmaline aids in understanding oneself and others.  An alternative 8th Anniversary gemstone is Aventurine.

 

9th Anniversary Gemstone is Lapis Lazuli

Lapis Lazuli is the traditional gemstone for a 9th Anniversary.  Lapis Lazuli will often show gorgeous sparkles of pyrite throughout its beautiful blue colour.  Lapis Lazuli bonds relationships, aiding in expression of feelings and emotions.  An alternative 4th Anniversary gemstone is Amethyst.

 

10th Anniversary Gemstone is Crystal Quartz

Crystal Quartz, also known as Clear Quartz, or Rock Crystal, is the traditional gemstone for a 10th Anniversary.  Clear Quartz is known as the "master healer”.  An alternative 10th Anniversary gemstone is Black Onyx.

 

11th Anniversary Gemstone is Turquoise

Turquoise is the traditional gemstone for an 11th Anniversary.  Typical colours for Turquoise are turquoise, blue, green, and even a yellow-green, although the blue and green colours tend to be the most popular.  Turquoise is a symbol of friendship, and stimulates romantic love.  An alternative 11th Anniversary gemstone is Hematite.

 

12th Anniversary Gemstone is Jade

 

Jade is the traditional gemstone for a 12th Anniversary.  Most prefer the typical green Jade that is widely available, although other colours including blue, lavender, pink, and white can also be found.  Jade is a symbol of serenity and purity.  An alternative 12th Anniversary gemstone is Agate.

 

13th Anniversary Gemstone is Citrine

14th Anniversary Gemstone is Opal

Alexandrite is the traditional gemstone for a 15th Anniversary.  Alexandrite is a rare colour changing variety of Chrysoberyl and is considered to be one of the rarest gemstones in the world.  Ruby and Crystal Quartz are alternative 15th Anniversary gemstones.

 

16th Anniversary Gemstone is Peridot

Peridot is the traditional gemstone for a 16th Anniversary.  Peridot is available in many different shades of green, from olive green, bottle green, and yellowish-green.  Peridot opens our hearts to joy.  An alternative 16th Anniversary gemstone is Aquamarine.

 

17th Anniversary Gemstone is Carnelian

Carnelian is the traditional gemstone for a 17th Anniversary.  Carnelian is orange-red gemstone that restores vitality and stimulates sexuality.  Alternative 17th Anniversary gemstones are Citrine and Amethyst.

 

18th Anniversary Gemstone is Tiger Eye

Tiger Eye is the traditional gemstone for an 18th Anniversary.  The most commonly know colour of Tiger Eye is a golden brown, but this gemstone is also found in red brown, and blue brown.  Tiger Eye brings good luck to the wear.  Blue Tiger is calming, while Red Tiger Eye is stimulating and can increase a low sex drive.  Alternative 18th Anniversary gemstones are Cat’s Eye and Chrysoprase.

 

19th Anniversary Gemstone is Aquamarine

Aquamarine is the traditional gemstone for a 19th Anniversary.  The green blue colours of Aquamarine often remind us of the sea.  The calming energies of Aquamarine are cleansing and soothing, helping to reduce stress and quiet the mind.  An alternative 19th Anniversary gemstone is Topaz.

 

20th Anniversary Gemstone is Emerald

23rd Anniversary Gemstone is Yellow Topaz

25th Anniversary - Sterling Silver

Gold is the traditional metal for a 50th Anniversary, also known as a Golden Anniversary.  Gold is a precious metal which shines beautifully on its own, whilst being a wonderful companion to gemstones.  Gold has been called “the master healer”.

 

55th Anniversary Gemstone is Emerald

Emerald is the traditional gemstone for a 55th Anniversary.  It is a popular anniversary gemstone, having also appeared as the 20th Anniversary gemstone.  An alternative 55th Anniversary gemstone is Alexandrite.

 

60th Anniversary Gemstone is Diamond

Diamond is the traditional gemstone for a 60th Anniversary.  Diamond is a precious gemstone.  It is a symbol of purity and brings love and clarity into relationships.

 

70th Anniversary Gemstone is Sapphire

Sapphire is the traditional gemstone for a 70th Anniversary.  This is the third time that Sapphire appears as an Anniversary gemstone, making it the most popular of the traditional anniversary gemstones.  No wonder Sapphire represents love and loyalty!

 

80th Anniversary Gemstone is Ruby

Ruby is the traditional gemstone for a 80th Anniversary.  A popular anniversary stone for a 40th Anniversary, Ruby appears again for the 80th Anniversary.  Its ability to encourage passion and a zest for life, also encourages joy and confidence.
